Sassafras Root

Sassafras albidum

Foraged from the woodlands at Brightside, spicy-sweet red sassafras root makes a tasty, root beer-flavored tea traditionally used as a spring tonic, blood purifier, and treatment for rheumatism and arthritis. Sassafras has also been used to treat pain and sexually transmitted diseases.

Precaution: Since sassafras root contains trace amounts of safrole, a toxic chemical which has been shown to cause cancer in lab animals, prolonged or excessive use of sassafras is not recommended. Not for use while pregnant or nursing.

Packaged in classic eight-ounce recycled aluminum tins.
